NEPAD East Africa Mandate MANDATE FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE EASTERN AFRICA REGIONAL COORDINATING OFFICE The Second Eastern Africa Heads of State and Government Summit on the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) held in Nairobi on October 29, 2003 saw the need to establish a regional NEPAD coordination mechanism which would work in conjunction with NEPAD Steering Committee and the Heads of State and Government Implementation Committee (HSGIC). The meeting endorsed the recommendation of Ministers that Kenya be the Regional Coordinator of NEPAD activities in Eastern Africa as an interim measure and described the duties as follows:
Convening regular coordination meetings of the NEPAD representatives for purposes of harmonizing the NEPAD-related strategies of the participating Eastern African countries;
VISION STATEMENT ‘TO BE THE PRIME EASTERN AFRICAN CENTRE FOR COORDINATED, HARMONISED AND INTEGRATED IMPLEMENTATION OF NEPAD PRIORITY PROGRAMMES FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, ERADICATION OF POVERTY, AND ATTAINMENT OF PEACE AND SECURITY IN THE REGION’ MISSION STATEMENT ‘TO FACILITATE IMPLEMENTATION OF NEPAD PROGRAMMES THROUGH ESTABLISHMENT OF A PLATFORM THAT ENABLES COORDINATION, ENHANCEMENTS OF PARTNERSHIPS AMONG GOVERNMENTS, REGIONAL ECONOMIC COMMUNITIES, DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS, THE PRIVATE SECTOR, CIVIL SOCIETY AND INFORMATION SHARING IN THE EASTERN AFRICA REGION’
